Happy new something something

"Year"?

Decent Christmas I had, although not ideal, on account of a wisdom tooth giving me massive amounts of grief in the lead-up to it. After an urgent visit to my dentists - whom I don't particularly trust or enjoy visiting, but I was in so much pain I had no real choice - I was finally given the antibiotics and painkillers I needed to stay sane over the Christmas period. Could not drink over Christmas, however, which irked me, and I was completely wiped out for several pre-Christmas celebrations which was even more annoying. My haul on the day consisted mostly of comic books, and also a make-your-own-rubber-band-ball kit which I spent several obsessive days putting together. Family visited; we played Settlers Of Catan, a game of great amusement, depth and complexity.

Was off the antibiotics for New Year, for which I visited Phil H. and others in a pleasant little flat in a pleasant little town in Worcester. Fancy dress New Year party at a nearby pub - I don't go in for that sort of thing, but Phil was Penfold to Andy P.'s Dangermouse, I was quite impressed. No prizes for our gang, though. Plenty of Wii on the afternoon before, though. This was the first time I had actually seen one of these slick machines in the flesh. My upper arms still ache from Super Mario Olympics or whatever the game was called. Fantastic machine - but what are the single player games like? I can't justify the expense until there's a GoldenEye equivalent.

Tooth extraction on the eighth.

One other thing. I've got a job. It's still not permanent; it's a three-month database consultancy contract with a hosting and colocation company in the Docklands. These guys. They have the tidiest server rooms in Christendom, I'll say that in their favour. I'll be working from home (Nottingham), though, visiting London maybe weekly. I haven't started properly with them yet, so stay tuned.
